SurveyMonkey vs Google Forms
The short answer
Google Forms is free with a Google account, handles branching logic, quizzes and automatic summary charts, and exports responses to Google Sheets. SurveyMonkey costs money for its team plans, from $30 per user per month billed annually with a three-user minimum, and adds statistical significance testing, AI and thematic analysis, white-label branding and a research panel. For internal polls, event sign-ups and simple feedback, Google Forms is usually enough; for customer research you will report on, SurveyMonkey's analysis earns its price.

When Google Forms is enough
- Internal surveys, event registrations, simple feedback forms and quizzes.
- You will analyse results in Sheets yourself.
- Budget is zero.
When SurveyMonkey earns its price
- You compare groups and need to know whether a difference is statistically significant.
- You need to buy responses from people outside your own list.
- Results go in front of clients or leadership with your branding.
Either way, decide how many responses you need before you send: the survey sample size calculator works it out for a given margin of error. For NPS specifically, see how to measure NPS.
