Roundup · Call tracking
Best marketing attribution tools for small and mid-size businesses (2026)
The short answer
GA4's data-driven attribution is free and covers online conversions. Businesses whose leads arrive by phone and form need lead-level attribution from a tool such as WhatConverts or CallRail, so each lead carries its source into the CRM. Ecommerce brands with large ad budgets look at Triple Whale or Hyros; B2B companies with long sales cycles look at revenue attribution such as Dreamdata.

The ranking
Ranked by the Analytics1 Score, from evidence read on each vendor’s own site on 19 October 2026. Affiliate partners and sponsors are scored by the same rules as everyone else: being a partner or buying a placement has no effect on a score or a position. Triple Whale
Not yet scored
Best for: Shopify brands reconciling Meta, Google and TikTok ad claims
Ecommerce attribution combining store orders, ad data and a first-party pixel.
Why this tool is not yet scored
We could not confirm enough on the vendor’s own pages to score it: a score needs core-job evidence, a pricing fact and at least three of the other five criteria. It is listed so you can still consider it. Vendors can send documentation through the contact form.

Attribution in three honest steps
- Capture the source on every lead or order, stored in the CRM or store, not just in an analytics report.
- Record what each lead became: qualified, sold, revenue.
- Report cost per qualified lead and revenue by source monthly. The marketing ROI calculator turns that into ROI on profit.
Multi-touch models are useful for comparing channels' roles, but no model is the truth; treat big budget shifts as tests. See the best call tracking software for the call side and how to track form submissions and leads for forms.

Questions
- What is the simplest attribution set-up for a small business?
- Tag every campaign link with UTMs, use GA4's attribution reports for online conversions, and capture the source on every lead in your CRM. If phone calls matter, add call tracking so calls carry their source too.
- Does GA4 attribute phone calls?
- GA4 can record a click on a phone number but not the call itself, its length or whether it was a sale. Call tracking platforms record the call and can send it to GA4 or Google Ads as a conversion.
