CallRail alternatives: 5 options compared

By the editors of Analytics1.comLast reviewed 19 October 2026

The short answer

People look past CallRail when usage charges on top of the base plan make the bill hard to predict, when they want calls, forms and chats in one lead list, or when Google Ads is their only channel and free tracking would do. WhatConverts suits lead-first reporting, CallTrackingMetrics suits teams that also want a contact centre, Invoca suits enterprise call volumes, and Google Ads' own call tracking costs nothing.

Why people switch from CallRail

  • Usage on top of the base fee. CallRail's pricing page charges a monthly base plan and states that minutes and numbers beyond the plan's allotment are billed in addition. Agencies with seasonal call volume find the total hard to forecast.
  • Features split across tiers. Form tracking sits in the Complete tiers and Conversation Intelligence in the Lead Conversion tiers, so the plan that matches the job can be a step up from the entry price.
  • Lead-level reporting. Some teams want every call, form, chat and transaction in one list with a quality mark and a value, rather than a call-first product with forms alongside.
  • Only one ad channel. If Google Ads is the only paid channel, Google's own call conversion tracking may be enough.

What to check before switching

  1. Number porting: confirm the new vendor can port your existing tracking numbers, especially any printed on vehicles, signs or directories.
  2. Which conversions Google Ads is optimising toward today, so the new platform's imported conversion replaces the old one cleanly rather than double counting.
  3. Recording consent: keep the call-recording notice in place during the move. Several US states require every party's consent.
  4. Integrations you rely on (CRM, GA4, Microsoft Ads, Meta) and whether qualified-call rules can be rebuilt.

The options

Migration notes

  • Run both platforms side by side for two to four weeks on separate number pools. Compare call counts per source before cancelling.
  • Port static numbers last. Dynamic pools can be replaced on day one; a number on a van cannot.
  • Keep your UTM conventions identical so source reports stay comparable across the switch. See UTM parameters explained.
  • Export call logs and recordings you need for disputes or training before the old account closes.

Not legal advice. Call recording needs notice everywhere and every party's consent in all-party states such as California, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Washington.

Questions

What is the cheapest alternative to CallRail?
Google Ads' own call conversion tracking is free, but it only tracks calls from Google Ads and has no recordings. Among paid platforms, compare the entry plan and the usage rates on each vendor's pricing page against your monthly minutes and number count.
Can I keep my tracking numbers if I leave CallRail?
Usually, through number porting to the new provider. Confirm with the new vendor that the specific numbers and number types (local or toll-free) can be ported before you cancel anything.
