Hotjar pricing in 2026: what replaced it

By the editors of Analytics1.comLast reviewed 19 October 2026

The short answer

You can no longer buy Hotjar as a new customer. Hotjar is part of Contentsquare, hotjar.com/pricing redirects to Contentsquare's pricing page, and Contentsquare says new Hotjar accounts cannot be created. New users get Contentsquare's free plan (up to 200,000 sessions a month) or Growth at $39 a month billed yearly ($49 monthly), with a 15-day Growth trial.

What happened to Hotjar

Contentsquare's Hotjar page says "Hotjar is now part of Contentsquare" and that the two platforms have merged. Existing Hotjar users log in with the same credentials. For comparison, the page lists the old Hotjar Free plan at 35 sessions a day and 20 survey responses a month, against Contentsquare Free at 200,000 sessions a month and 100 responses.

What drives the bill

Sessions recorded per month. Growth is priced by session tier from 7,000 upward. The page says Growth customers in Europe are billed in euros and elsewhere in US dollars.

Do you need a paid plan

For most small sites the free plan's session allowance is generous. You pay for the longer data retention, more survey responses and features that come with Growth. Before paying, decide what you will change based on the recordings: heatmaps answer "what do people click" but not "did this change lift conversions". For that you need a test: read heatmaps and session recordings explained and A/B testing for small business.

Session recording captures what visitors type and see. Mask form fields, get consent where the law requires it, and never record pages that show health or payment data. Not legal advice.
