Hootsuite alternatives: 5 options compared

By the editors of Analytics1.comLast reviewed 19 October 2026

The short answer

Most people leave Hootsuite on price: its paid plans are priced per user and there is no free plan. Buffer has a free plan and per-channel pricing, Later is built around visual planning and link in bio, SocialBee around content categories and recycling, Vista Social adds listening and review management, and Sprout Social is a fuller enterprise suite.

Why people switch from Hootsuite

  • Per-user pricing. Hootsuite's plans page showed Standard from $99 per user per month, billed annually, in October 2026, with free trials but no free plan.
  • Account limits. Its Standard plan covers up to 10 social accounts; unlimited accounts start at Professional.
  • More than you need. Solo marketers and small teams often only need scheduling and basic analytics.

What to check before switching

  1. Networks and post types you publish (Reels, carousels, Shorts, LinkedIn pages, Google Business Profile).
  2. Analytics depth: per-post metrics, competitor tracking and exportable reports.
  3. Approval workflows and client access if you are an agency.
  4. How link clicks are tracked. Add UTM parameters to every scheduled link so GA4 credits social correctly.

Migration notes

  • Export your scheduled queue and analytics history first; analytics rarely transfers between tools.
  • Reconnect each social profile with the account owner present, since networks require reauthorisation.
  • Keep the same UTM convention on scheduled links so social traffic in GA4 stays comparable.
